Research emphasizes the importance of Insight Learning

Behavioral psychologists and neuroscientists laid the groundwork to understand insight learning. Actually, the brain uses two basic problem solving processes: insight problem solving (subconscious) and analytical problem solving (conscious effort).

Unfortunately, all too often public education emphasizes analytical problem solving and memorization, and omits (even discourages) creativity and imagination.

Research defines three stages of problem solving by insight:

  1. "Impasse", when the answer to a vexing problem won't come
  2. "Restructuring", a gestation phase when the subconscious takes over and discovers new relationships to find a solution that bypasses the mental block. ... followed by....
  3. "Sudden Awareness"  the light bulb turns on, you know you have a solution.

Insight learning toward health and personal well-being has been neglected for too long. My husband, Robert Ronzio, Ph.D. and I have taken important steps to help remedy this problem.

Stress Management:

We began with a model of insight-motivated learning to assist clinicians in promoting effective patient stress management. This behavioral change model has been published in the peer-reviewed journal, Integrative Medicine: A Clinician's Journal.

The Insight Learning Institute:

We developed this Institute to enhance healthcare and personal well-being through research and education in insight learning. We are particularly interested in stress, and stress-related health conditions.
